Java Grill is a new café opening doors in the bustling area of Downtown Alexandria, right off King St. We aim to bring the best pastries, rolled gelato, coffee, and light meals to the area. Our food is sourced and made from fresh and local ingredients and we pride ourselves in delivering great service and value to our guests in a fun atmosphere.
We are searching for positive, passionate, high energy pastry cooks, someone who can help us create a memorable and meaningful connection with our guests by baking and preparing the delicious pastries that will be served in our café. The primary responsibility of the pastry cooks is to accurately follow recipes, methods, and instructions to produce pastries, breads and cakes for the café.
You must meet the following conditions to be considered for this job:
- Must be authorized to work in the U.S.
- Previous experience cooking in a kitchen
- High School diploma or equivalent vocational training certificate
- Certificate of culinary training or apprenticeship preferred
- Must be willing to obtain ServSafe certification within your first 60 days of employment
- Flexibility in schedule with the ability to work early mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays
Job requirements/responsibilities:
- Learn and gain full knowledge of the menu
- Preparing, cooking, and serving all pastry items.
- Follows recipes, methods, and instructions with precision to ensure uniformity, consistent quality, and expected yields. Measure ingredients and prioritize tasks to streamline daily production and responsibilities
- Demonstrates adequate pastry skills, cake decorating talents, and bread baking expertise
- Demonstrates culinary techniques such as knife skills, cooking principles, and food safety and sanitation practices
- Adhering to safety and sanitation policies when handling food, keeps work-station clean and organized, ensure kitchen equipment and tools are clean, and all food handling standards are within compliance
- Following all kitchen policies, procedure, and service standards
- Stocking food and supplies
- Assisting other staff members as needed
- Showing up to work on time in the appropriate attire
- Proper usage and handling of various kitchen machinery to include mixers, proofer, food processors, and other kitchen-related equipment
Physical requirements:
- Walk and stand throughout the entire shift
- Reach, bend, lift (up to 50 pounds with assistance through the kitchen), carry, stoop, and wipe
- Frequently wash hands
- Moderate exposure to extreme temperatures
- Handle knives and pots/pans
